I photograph people, but l’m just as interested in whats happening around them. The light, the setting, the conversation and the little details that help tell the story.
l’m drawn to colour, texture and places with character. A weathered wall, an old doorway, a favourite corner of a home or a beautiful window can all add something.
My background in art and design means l’m always thinking about the whole frame. What someone wears, where we photograph, what belongs on the picture and what doesn’t.
l give direction when it’s useful, but never so much that things stop feeling believable. The aim is photography that feels individual, considered and full of life.
My approach
Before a shoot, we’ll have a chat about what has brought you to me and what you’d like the photographs to capture.
I’m interested in people, but also everything around them. Place, clothes, colour, light, objects and all the small details that tell us something. Sometimes those things matter enormously, sometimes the simplest approach is the right one.
l’ll help you choose where we photograph and what might work visually. On the day, I’ll think about light, setting and composition and give you plenty of direction, so you’re never left wondering what on earth to do with your hands.
I don’t have a formula or how somebody should be photographed. A portrait of a five day old baby, a business owner and someone marking a particular moment in their life clearly require rather different things from me.
What interests me is finding the right way to photograph the person or people in front of me and making something individual, natural and visually strong.
